I knew there was something strange about Carrick Cross the minute he climbed onto my roof; I’d known even then that I couldn’t trust him, and now my premonitions were assured. In the relentless rain, he looked almost inhuman - too angular, too tall, too muscled. His eyes had gone dark and fathomless; dark chocolate replaced with swirling, coalescing black shadows. His gait was off - too confident, too fast, too lethal. Maybe I’d been right about him being some raging sociopath after all. Maybe he really did want to tear my skin off and make a Dahlia suit. Or maybe there was more to it then that. I didn’t know for sure until I saw the blade glinting from his hand.
